a.co.lab designs, plans, and conducts research in the sphere of architecture and its extensional fields. Since 2013, we have maintained practice in architectural design, regional planning, exhibition curation and public research. a.co.lab stands for “architecture collaboratory” indicating an inter-disciplinary and research-oriented approach to design. From the inception, we have held the systems that form built environment with a conviction in which tangible or intangible phenomena around us are representations of latent social and economic structures. We are also a firm believer in the history of “the rest” which has built up over time in the periphery of development primarily led by a select few entities. We are more concerned with reorganizing the present state and its intrinsic values rather than merely achieving aesthetic quality of space and proposing a new order. We are convinced that interactions between people inside and out of the city and the traces left behind in Seoul, and more generally in Korea, deserve closer observation.
