Annalisa Dominoni graduated with honors in Architecture at Politecnico di Milano in 1991, specializing in Industrial Design. Her thesis project entitled “Atlante” was awarded the Targa Bonetto in 1992, the M.A.G.A’s First National Prize for Visual Arts in 1993, and the 17th Young People’s Compasso d'Oro Award in 1995. In 2001 she was awarded a Ph.D. in Industrial Design from Politecnico di Milano, opening a new realm of research and experimentation into "Design for Space & Extreme Environments" and creating new projects, tools, and equipment - that have been used by astronauts onboard the International Space Station - with the aim to increase the crew's comfort and efficiency during space missions.

She was the Principal Investigator for two experiments of a "Clothing Support System for IVA Activities" tested out in orbit on the International Space Station: VEST, Marco Polo Mission, ASI, 2002, was selected by the 20th Golden Compass Awards for Research in 2004; GOAL, Eneide Mission, ESA, 2005, received the “Eneide Mission Award” from the ESA for the mission’s success. Head of international research teams for scientific projects with space agencies (ASI, ESA, NASA) and industries like Thales Alenia Spazio and Kayser Italia. The results of her projects have been presented at international symposiums and published in scientific journals. She has also written numerous books and received lots of commendations and awards for her work that helped define a new discipline and the role of Design for Space.

She has been teaching Product and Fashion Design at the School of Design of Politecnico di Milano since 2001 and at various foreign universities like Monash University, RMIT University, Swinburne University of Technology, Lulea University of Technology, GD Goenka University as visiting professor in the fields of Product & Services Design, Design & Innovation, Fashion & Technology, Art & Science.

In 2011 Annalisa Dominoni founded together with Benedetto Quaquaro their design studio (a+b) in Milan with the aim of making design combining research and technological innovation with poetry.
In 2015 they designed the new Milan Metro Leonardo trains for ATM produced by Hitachi Rail Italy and for which they received the Premio Eccellenze della Lombardia ADI Design Index 2016. They created in 2017 the 1st and unique course in the world of Space Design, "Space4InspirAction", supported by the European Space Agency (ESA). Among their latest projects, in 2019 a new space station for Thales Alenia Space and the acoustic objects designed and produced by Caimi Brevetti.
