Since graduating from the ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) in 1997, Gaetano Castiello worked on different scales of architectural practice in Rome (Studio Fuksas and Prof. S. Cordeschi), Naples and Basel. He has been involved in the design of urban spaces in the city of Basel since 2004. He is working in the Planning Office of the Canton of Basel-Stadt and in his own office URBANE LANDSCHAFTEN (urban landscapes) as well. His design projects received numerous awards e.g. for the design project for Basel's Münsterplatz, one of the most beautiful and historically significant squares in Switzerland, and for the Wettsteinplatz in Basel. Both projects have received the Award for Good Buildings of the Cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft. Further projects, such as the Karl Barth-Platz (Awarded with the Flâneur d 'Or 2011) and the Max Kämpf-Platz show the competence in the interdisciplinary design of beautiful urban spaces. The studio URBANE LANDSCHAFTEN designs spaces for people in urban environments.
