Clementine Blakemore Architects is an emerging London-based practice committed to producing buildings that are inventive, inclusive and have a positive impact on both the wider community and the environment. We enjoy making architecture rooted in place and shaped by context, in terms of local materials, climate and craftsmanship.
Our design process is rigorous, exploratory and collaborative – involving clients, consultants and end-users in the resolution of proposals. Ideas are developed and represented through a tactile combination of drawing, model-making, mock-ups and material research. We aim to achieve high environmental standards through the implementation of passive strategies, renewable energy and sustainable materials, always seeking to integrate these elegantly through careful detailing and contemporary ways of thinking. Having self-built a number of our early projects, we take great pleasure in the process of transforming design ideas into built form.
In 2020 we were included in the Architects’ Journal prestigious 40 under 40 list, and in 2021 were featured in the Architecture Foundation book New Architects 4.
Current projects include a music recording studio on an infill site in London Fields, the renovation of a listed house in Kentish Town for a potter, and an extension to a house in Hackney. Earlier this year we completed Wraxall Yard – the conversion of a series of derelict farm buildings in West Dorset into accessible holiday accommodation, an educational farm and community space. Part of a visionary project by the owners to improve the biodiversity of the landscape, and provide universal access to it, the project was awarded a High Commendation in the 2023 MacEwen Awards and has been shortlisted for the AJ Retrofit Awards. In 2019 we completed a new music pavilion for a state primary school in Buckinghamshire, which was shortlisted for the Wood Awards, AJ Small Projects Awards and the RIBA MacEwan Awards. Previous clients include the Design Museum, the Dorset Wildlife Trust, and the UK Green Building Council.
