2050+
2050+ is a Milan-based interdisciplinary agency that works across technology, the environment, politics, design and visual culture. Since its inception two years ago, 2050+ has engaged meaningfully with projects spanning across curatorial and research practices, installation design, and architecture. Between 2019 and 2021, 2050+ curated Open, the Russian Federation Pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice, awarded by the International Jury with a Special Mention. For this occasion, 2050+ has edited the accompanying publication titled Voices (Towards Other Institutions), which puts forward alternative forms of constituencies and collectiveness, setting the ground for a reflection around the status of cultural institutions. More recently 2050+ has completed the architectural refurbishment of the iconic modernist building of La Rinascente, originally designed by Franco Albini and Franca Helg in Piazza Fiume, Rome. 2050+ has contributed to a number of notable exhibitions, including the exhibition design for Aquaria - Or the Illusion of a Boxed Sea at the MAAT Museum of Lisbon; and the curation and staging of The Horizon: Revive the Spirit of Mosul, the UNESCO contribution to the 17th Architecture Biennale; the set design of the PENUMBRA exhibition, for the In Between Art Film Foundation within the Ospedaletto complex in Venice on the occasion of the 59th Art Biennale; the staging of the exhibition created for the Henraux Foundation at the Gallerie D’Italia in Milan. 2050+ has recently completed Søylerommet - The Pillars room, a permanent exhibition space for the Fredriksen Collection as part of the new National Museum of Norway, in Oslo. In parallel, 2050+ has collaborated with world-renowned fashion labels on various projects aimed at honing their brand narrative and strategic outreach. For instance, 2050+ teamed up with Slam Jam and Nike Italy for the Circle initiative, involving the curation of an online think-tank, and the coordination of a series of public programs and workshops, focused on the relationship between bodies, technology and the city. 2050+ and Sunnei regularly collaborate on the curation and design of the experimental fashion shows of the brand. For Bulgari, it conceived and art directed two shorts films, Magnificent - Nature and Magnificent - Craft, which won the “Best Story” Award at the London Fashion Film Festival. 2050+ also utilizes moving images as a means to conduct independent research projects. Among them, the two short films Riders Not Heroes and Riders Not Heroes: Anatomy of a Delivery, currently exhibited at the CCA in Montreal. The first episode of the dilogy has been featured across various platforms and festivals, including the 5th Istanbul Design Biennial; the 2021 Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival of Kiev; and the 2021 OFF-Biennale of Budapest. 2050+ also produced the experimental video 15’’, which was presented at the 2020 Yerevan Biennale. Reflecting on research developed in the context of ADS8: Data Matter, a studio unit at the Royal College of Art in London, 2050+ has contributed to several editorial and journalistic platforms, including the Terraforma Journal, Unbore, Flash Art, E-flux Architecture, Volume, and Dixit, among others.
