Alberto Biagetti and Laura Baldassari draw their inspiration from the world around them, from human behaviour and contemporary society’s greatest obsessions. Their work is rich with references and suggestions that guide the observer through a constructed environment where the body, objects and surrounding space create an emotional short-circuit.
Every project tells a story, like a short film, but instead of becoming a moving image the narrative is developed by objects with “expressive functionality” that suggest new ways of interaction between physical and psychological space.
2015 saw the start of the “trilogy” curated by Maria Cristina Didero, three projects intended to investigate some of the most intriguing aspects of contemporary society. The first episode, “BODY BUILDING”, explored the idea of “beauty” through the creation of a paradoxical anti-gym that attracted the attention of both the international public and media. Wallpaper Magazine dedicated a front cover to the project with an image created by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari. Next came “NO SEX”, an even deeper exploration of “human nature”, brushing past the body to penetrate the mind and the relationships between the most intimate, secret forms of behaviour and desire. With “GOD”, the third and final part in the trilogy Biagetti and Baldassari worked on a scenario that upturned the values associated with the obsession with money, power and the yearning to win.
Atelier Biagetti is the Milan-based practice of Alberto Biagetti and artist Laura Baldassari. Atelier Biagetti’s works include installations, objects and performances and can be found in public institutions, private spaces, museums and galleries in Italy and abroad such as: The Triennale di Milano – Art Basel Design Miami – Secondome, Rome – Galleria Riccardo Crespi, Milan – Galerie Italienne, Paris – Roehrs & Boetsch, Zurich – Hostler Burrows, New York.
