From the very beginning created as a family business, the company Edwood has always differed attentive and meticulous attitude to create furniture from selecting material of the valuable species of wood, among which a special place occupies an exclusive line of products made of bog oak. Bog Oak is a very special and valuable kind of wood.
The river has changed the direction since many centuries, hollowed roots and oak fell into the water. Being under the water, the wood is obduced by minerals and the process of fuming is started. It lasted for thousands of years. The color of wood depends on the chemical structure of water. It can vary from pink till coal-black. This kind of wood is in the lakes and bogs, which is in ecologically clean territories.
The process of getting off this wood is very difficult and expensive. Extraction of this wood is held by man as the special transport can’t drive to the bogs and lakes. Divers dig the log, obduce it by chains and this wood is taken from water by horses. After this we started the process of drying. Each lot of extracted materials is certified (radiocarbon dating C14 determines the age of wood). The oldest lot of extracted material was 2140 and the youngest was 1100 years. Each item has its certificate.
Speaking about the conditions where oak is fumed, it has special qualities. Bog oak has hard-edged man’s character and harsh disposition which dictates arrangements in manufacturing. This kind of wood needs much care and only manual processing on the every stage of manufacturing.
