Nizio Design International

Mirosław Nizio studied at the Department of Interior Architecture and Sculpture, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, and at the faculty of Interior Design, Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. He started his own design business in the 1990s in New York, where he received a number of awards and honorary mentions, e.g.: Glenn Boyles Memorial Rendering And Design (1993), Educational Foundation for the Design Industries in Interior Design (1998).

He is an architect who is mainly recognised for designs of public spaces: museums, historical exhibitions, shows, commemoration monuments, scenographies. He co-designed and built the core exhibition of the Warsaw Rising Museum which is the most frequently visited cultural institution in Poland and for the works on which he received the Gold Medal of Merit in July of 2006. For his contribution to the making of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in 2015 Mirosław Nizio was honoured with the Bronze Medal “Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis ”.

In the course of his career in United States and Poland Mirosław Nizio has designed tens of architectural objects, interiors, permanent and temporary exhibitions, revitalisation projects, recreational facilities, offices and private residences.

NIZIO DESIGN INTERNATIONAL
In 2002 Mirosław Nizio opened his Nizio Design International studio in Warsaw’s Praga district. The Company boasts long-standing experience of designing and completing architectural, revitalisation, and exhibition projects. The studio’s associate teams of architects deal with developing the most essential cultural spaces in the country by providing comprehensive services – from opinion polls, case studies, to developing concept proposals, preparing detailed designs, through architect supervision and actual construction. To help develop such projects the studio works closely with experts in culture, science, and art.

EXHIBITIONS
The exhibitions designed by Nizio Design International reconstruct history balancing the latest technologies and artistic means of exhibition. To the effect that, having seen the exhibition, the viewer is enriched with the knowledge and aesthetic experiences, as is the case with the Core Exhibition of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews that was opened in October of 2014, and the building and exhibition of the Ulma Family Museum of Poles Saving Jews in Markowa launched in March of 2016.

The studio creates exhibition schemes and architectural museum designs. Each project is supported by sociological and urban plan studies. The research work helps to produce designs of museum complexes that are well correlated with the urban layout (e.g. “The Gate to the 1920 Battle of Warsaw” museum or the commemorative monument “Stone Hell” KL Gross-Rosen). The studio’s scorecard also includes the development of temporary exhibitions in urban spaces (“Smoleńsk Portraits” or “Relay Race to Freedom” in Warsaw), design of an apartment building Nordic Haven in Bydgoszcz, and recreation facilities, e.g. the innovative “Zoom Natury” Recreation Park in Janów Lubelski which in 2015 was granted the International Property Award for the best European Leisure Architecture building design.

REVITALISATIONS
Mirosław Nizio’s studio takes the credit for major revitalisation projects, e.g. the winner of the 2015 European Property Award: a multidisciplinary project to transform the former Coal Mine “Julia” in Wałbrzych into the Old Mine – Science and Art Centre , or the winner of the “Złoty Żuraw” award for revitalisation of the former synagogue in Chmielnik, home to the “Świętokrzyski Shtetl” educational and museum facility featuring a studio-designed exhibition. Also, the studio has prepared the concept proposal and conducted opinion polls necessary to develop the project to revitalise Rother’s Mills in Bydgoszcz.

Nizio Design International team has also prepared comprehensive revitalisation concept proposals dedicated to cities, their large areas or selected objects. This kind of studies were prepared for Łęczyca, Kraśnik and Janów Lubelski. Also, the studio has a portfolio related to the revitalisation projects it developed for Łódź. The first is the project titled “Lapidarium – Architectural Detail Storehouse”, the second – a tool for the international promotion of the city and Poland through the issues related to revitalisation and the changes that this type of architects’ activity brings to public space and social life.
