Johnson Chou Inc.
Johnson Chou Inc. is an internationally recognized interdisciplinary design practice encompassing architectural design and interiors, furniture, industrial and graphic design - a body of work characterized by conceptual explorations of narrative, transformation and multiplicity. While the search for the elemental is the defining aspect of the diverse, yet consistent body of work, a heightened sense of ritual, metaphor, drama and engagement exemplify the firm's projects.

Award-winning and internationally recognized projects include advertising offices for Grip Limited and Zulu Alpha Kilo, Head Offices for Red Bull Canada and private residences at 10 Bellair and the Candy Factory condominiums. Other projects include the Museum of Canadian Contemporary Art (MoCCA), TNT clothing boutiques, a new showroom for Bang & Olufsen, Blowfish Restaurants and the recently completed interior courtyard for Hazelton Lanes - Oval Square. The firm also won an international design competition for a television and telecommunications tower in Jiang Men, China. Current projects include multi-storey condominium projects with Freed Developments: Sixty Colborne, in downtown Toronto's historical St. Lawrence district, and 155 Redpath, in the uptown Yonge and Eglinton neighbourhood. Other notable projects include 383 Sorauren, a mid-rise condominium development for Gairloch Ltd., a showroom for !Xam Diamonds and a community centre/food bank for Caledon Community Services.

The firm has received numerous awards for its work, including Interior Design magazine's Best of Year award in 2006 for advertising agency Grip Limited, the new headquarters for Red Bull Canada in 2010 and again in 2012 for its expansion. The sales centre for Sixty Colborne was awarded the coveted 2012 "Project of the Year" by ARIDO, (the Association of Registered Interior Designers). Published widely in national and international periodicals including Architectural Review, Architectural Record and Azure, Chou was profiled by FRAME magazine as one of ten designers most published by the magazine. The firm's work is featured in several compendium publications including 1000X Architecture of the Americas, Contemporary World Interiors and Interior Architecture Now, "a survey of sixty of the top individuals/practices designing interior spaces today".

By creating "narratives of inhabitation", be it a residence, office or retail space, the studio's projects are characterized by forms imbued with metaphoric content and richness of detail - objects and spaces that are "portraits" of their clients.
