Scott Hughes Design is a specialist structural and civil engineering consultancy, also offering BREEAM, Code for Sustainable Homes and Eco-Homes audits. It was established in 2003 by Ian Scott and Wendy Broomhead (ne Hughes), when they left Sinclair Knight Merz.
The company works predominantly in the north of England, from its main office in Manchester and a second office in Leeds. Scott Hughes has won numerous design and innovation awards including an innovation award for a pre-fabricated building built at Port Lockroy in the Antarctic and, working with MBLA Architects, 2009 RIBA award for Schaefer House which was constructed using SIP technology.
The structural engineering team has expertise in specialist materials including glass, stainless steel, tension structures, fabrics as well as more traditional construction materials (concrete, steel, masonry and timber). In addition to traditional building structures the company has completed a number of specialist structures including staircases, canopies, balconies and temporary exhibitions.
The team also has specialist knowledge of engineering timber structures including SIP (Structurally Insulated Panels) and glulam; keeping abreast of developments as an active professional member of the UK SIPs Association.
