Since its inception in 1996, Jamie Fobert Architects has had a reputation for innovative and inspiring architectural design in the residential, retail and arts sectors. The practice has demonstrated a consistent approach to resolving client ambitions and site complexities into a tactile architecture of volume, material and light. Jamie Fobert Architects has garnered several awards, including the Manser Medal and the RIBA and English Heritage ‘Award for a building in an historic context’. The practice has won three major public commissions for cultural organisations: Kettle’s Yard Gallery; the Charleston Trust; and Tate St Ives. Residential Residential projects have required unique solutions to resolve difficult site constraints. JFA has set out to test ideas of materiality and spatial configuration. These projects reveal a sensitivity to historic context partnered with contemporary design concerns. JFA’s completed residential projects range from an inner-block site in central London to a farmhouse in rural Ireland and a coastal residence in the South of France. The practice is currently working on several new-build private houses - a mews house in Bloomsbury, and houses in St Johns Wood, Barnes, rural Oxfordshire, Trinidad and Cape Town. Arts Having gained significant experience of installation design for exhibition spaces, including ‘The Upright Figure’ in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall and ‘Constable to Delacroix’ at Tate Britain, the practice went on to design the space for the Frieze Art Fair in Regent’s Park in 2006 and 2007 and the Centre for Contemporary Culture in Moscow, inserted into a 1929 Melnikov bus garage. More recently, JFA has been selected to design the refurbishment and extension of Kettle’s Yard Gallery in Cambridge, to develop the barns at Charleston Farmhouse and to design a major extension to the Tate in St Ives. Retail JFA’s earliest retail projects included an award-winning cafe and UK design concept for AVEDA, the ‘Urban Retreat’ spa and retail area in Harrods, and a new cake shop and cafe for Konditor & Cook. In 2009, we completed a flagship boutique in Paris and international design concept for Givenchy. We have redesigned a total of 7,000 m sq of Selfridges, completing their Shoe Galleries in 2010 and their Designer Womenswear Galleries in 2012. Our extensive experience and innovative, refreshing approach to design has more recently brought us new retail clients including a new architectural design concept for Versace (introduced in Paris, and being rolled out worldwide) and a brand new concept store for the Hong Kong-based retailer IT China.
