Toronto is the business and cultural heart of Canada and one of the world’s leading financial centres. Located on the shores of Lake Ontario, it is the fifth largest city in North America and a prominent centre for media, communications and entertainment. With roots in aviation planning, Arup in Toronto now delivers a wide array of services largely focused on both the transportation and buildings sectors. Projects include the new terminal at the heart of the C$4.4bn redevelopment of Toronto Pearson International Airport. Arup also devised and applied innovative 3D modelling tools to predict commuter behaviour for a redeveloped Union Station downtown and is leading design of two new subway stations as part of the expansion of the existing network. Arup in Toronto provided building engineering for the recent expansion of the Royal Ontario Museum and is currently supporting work on ambitious waterfront redevelopment plans that include the new central waterfront promenade for a sustainable waterfront community at the mouth of the Don River.
