Arup Madrid

Madrid is the major financial centre of the Iberian Peninsula and plays a major role in both the banking and industrial sectors. It has traditionally been the hub between different areas of Spain and is therefore connected to all major Spanish cities by train, road or air. Following the completion of a number of major projects in 1992, including the Thyssen Museum in Madrid, Arup established a permanent presence in Spain in 1994. Since then, Arup has grown to include more than 120 qualified engineers and staff, working throughout all Spanish regions. The firm's recent projects include Metropol Parasol in Seville; La Alhóndiga Cultural Centre in Bilbao; the Expo Zaragoza Bridge, which provided a crossing and galleries for the Expo 2008, the construction of the world's largest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal in Algeciras, and Valencia Football club's new five-star UEFA stadium. Arup's clients include both the public and private sectors for civil, industrial and building projects. The firm has delivered a wide range of project types from shopping centers and office design to building upgrades and structural audits, and has also provided technical advisory services to investment banks and financial Institutions in relation to publicly funded projects, public private partnerships (PPP), and private finance initiatives (PFI). Adapted to the Spanish market, codes and environment, projects are based on a holistic design vision which addresses environmental aspects, efficient use of natural resources and energy, and social implications in addition to the economic impact.
