sporaarchitects is a Budapest based architectural office, it was founded in 2002 by four partners, Tibor Dékány, Sándor Finta, Ádám Hatvani and Orsolya Vadász, in order to develop an architectural practice that turns intense research and analysis of practical as well as theoretical issues into the driving forces of design. Often projects focus on ordinary aspects of everyday life, including the unappreciated or negative, that are enhanced or twisted in order to bring to the fore the unexpected potential of the things that surround us. At the core of architecture is the ability to take a fresh look. Among others, they currently work on one of Hungary’s most significant projects, the construction of the underground line called Metro4. This challenging design process requires matching innovative architecture with complex technological points of view. The group is ispired by several disciplines, the projects are born with different intentions. Sourcing inspiration from almost everywhere – from vernacular architecture, cities, nature, popular culture, music and technology to the material world, people and art – they see architecture as something fundamentally complex, where everything can be potentially interesting. Looking at the profession from this point of view, the social role of architecture is strongly increasing. The function of architects is changing: their traditional, elitist position is shifting towards public activities and social responsibility. In accordance with this tendency, sporaarchitects were among the founders and keep being active members of the Hungarian Contemporary Architecture Center (KÉK), an initiative of young architects and artists who intended to create an independent cultural centre open to all, to strengthen community life and promote architectural education.
