Rizoma Arquitetura

A Rhizome is a botanical structure, a kind of root. It grows superficially, spreading itself throughout the territory and generating new plants. Contrary to the root of the tree, that grows vertically, the rhizome does not posess a hierarquical structure, it works as a net. Its non-hierarchical structure, allows the plants to exchange nutrients, in some sort of collaborative survival and perpetuity. At the same time, if one plant is cut off of the rhizome, its structure remains unaffected and so do the other plants. At our practice, the rhizome serves as a metaphore for the exchange of knowledge, with transforming goals. Rizoma Arquitetura is nowadays a team of four and a geographer. A small structure that allows us to make partnerships, work in different places, with different teams from different disciplines. It does not seem interesting for us to have a big structure set at a fixed location. We create partnerships with architects and other professionals for specific projects and then return to our original configuration, allowing us to exchange knowledge from the discipline and from the practice of architecture, being open for new experiences. Rizoma Arquitetura was founded in September 2008. Since 2013 Rizoma constitutes the Architecture Council of Inhotim.
