The firm is comprised of two poles, architecture and landscape design, that work much like a pair of 3D glasses; the desired effect is only achieved when both lenses are working in unison. This consubstantial interaction forms a foundation from which all of the firm’s projects are based. The natural and built environments therefore have a more porous border between the two, and the resultant interpretation of works is unique, due to this binary vision. Research and Design The design work is primarily carried out through an initial phase of almost naivety. Through meetings, site visits, an understanding of the program, and various readings, several projects emerge - unreal, conceptual, expressive, sensual, and radical. Internally, we then conduct a series of tests, both physical and digital, that sifts through concepts to find design solutions that are pragmatic and effective. One of these solutions is then picked to form a strong base that is functional, aesthetically pleasing, and economically sound. This driving force allows the project to develop, all the while keeping its initial essence intact. The details are the reflection of this careful development – an overarching quasi-fractal vision and simplicity in approach that renders a fine, durable and elegant solution. The architecture, from paper to concrete, only takes its final shape once the inhabitants, users, and passers-by are introduced into the space.
