Adam Khan Architects
The practice was formed in 2006 by Adam Khan, previously an associate at Caruso StJohn Architects. Based in Bloomsbury, the practice has established a diverse portfolio; working with artists, gallery owners, regeneration agencies, housing developers, charities, trusts, and private residential clients. Across all of the projects there is a consistent commitment to beauty and sociability, to collaboration and engagement across disciplines and social boundaries. This has resulted in the completion of widely acclaimed built projects, work on large scale urban design projects with major developers, in collaborations with artists and in ongoing visioning work bringing together diverse stakeholders and community user groups. The practice carries Public Indemnity Insurance and is registered with the Architects Registration Board. AKA is a RIBA Chartered Practice Adam Khan Architects enjoy the architects role in offering inspiration and vision, sharp critique, practical beauty and social responsibility: We are interested in making buildings and spaces that have vitality. This vitality can come from supporting a lively public realm and being open to diverse uses, but equally springs from a visual and tectonic finesse, rich in experiential qualities. We create spaces with a range of atmospheres, characters and emotional temperatures. We are interested in the potential for an active and creative inhabitation by users of a building, a generosity which allows for unexpected use. We are interested in Architecture that can invite emotional attachment. We look for dialogue at all levels, from the process of design to the relationship of a building with its context. We pursue delight and sensual pleasure in buildings with the same rigour that we bring to sustainability and cost control. Our work starts with a detailed investigation of found conditions - the possibilities of a site, the use of existing structures, available budget and materials, the aspirations of the client, and works toward a long view of the future, in which adaptability to change and potential for growth are anticipated and enjoyed.’
