ONL [Oosterhuis_Lénárd]

The architecture of ONL combines the visionary with the practical, integrates the architectural image with the structural solutions and the decorative, all of it based on Non Standard architecture and cost-effective production methods. Architect Kas Oosterhuis and visual artist Ilona Lénárd are directors of the multidisciplinary design office ONL [Oosterhuis_Lénárd], where architects, visual artists, designers and programmers work together and join forces, practicing the fusion of art, architecture and technique on a digital platform. ONL is an office where reality and virtuality meet. Professor Kas Oosterhuis studied architecture at the Delft Technical University. In 1987-1988 he taught as Unit Master at the AA in London and worked / lived one year in the former studio of Theo van Doesburg in Paris together with visual artist Ilona Lénárd. In 2004 their design studio was renamed into ONL [Oosterhuis_Lénárd]. Based on his practical experience with digital design and communication tools, Kas Oosterhuis has been appointed professor Digital Design Methods at the Delft University of Technology since 2000 and is currently leading a staff of over 20 researchers at the Hyperbody Research Group, the knowledge center for Non Standard and Interactive Architecture at the University of Technology Delft. Kas Oosterhuis is Director of the Protospace Laboratory in the iWEB pavilion, located in front of the Faculty of Architecture. The work of the ONL office and the HRG are closely related and mutually supportive. The office received the prestigious Autodesk BIM Experience award in 2008 for their revolutionary implementation of complex geometry in a parametric Building Information Model [BIM] as lead designers for the CET project in Budapest
