Studio Kami Architecture & Engineering
Architecture Firm Rome / Italy
Studio Kami Architecture & Engineering was born in the partnership of two Roman architects, Emanuele Custo and Emanuele Mantrici. Their professional experience includes various national and international projects: the aforementioned ParametricWave at Rome's MAXXI Museum, Earthquake-proof Wooden Residence in L'Aquila and a multipurpose center in Russia. In line with the design philosophy of the architects the Studio has confronted the subject of conservation redevelopment many times, as in the cases of the Headquarter in Rome, created for Armando Testa Advertising Company, The Artist's Atelier for Emilio Farina, the Velodrome in Rome-EUR, and the Residence on Via Giovanni dal Castebolognese in Rome-Testaccio.
The architects are especially committed to the development of bio-architecture, and their research crosses different themes, typologies and scales. They also make use of an engineering department, a creative department, and interior design, therefore using the necessary skills needed to furnish what is commonly referred to as an integrated contract.
The meeting of aesthetics with the needs for energy savings and a respect for the environment give the projects an added value of bio-climatic sensitivity. Correct environmental integration, solar orientation, sensibility to the use of specific materials and the utilization of new technologies are complementary to equally innovative morphologies. The study of the micro and the macro, from biology to geology, with their spatial complexities, provides the stimulus for the development of new design concepts and organic forms.
