Asymptote Architecture is a leading multi-disciplinary architectural practice based in New York City. Founded in 1989 by Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture, Asymptote has been working at the forefront of design and technological innovation pertaining to building design, master planning, urban design as well as exhibition and interior design. Asymptote is presently involved as lead design architects on a broad range of commissions at various sites in the United States, Europe and Asia, including two landmark luxury residential towers for the new Yongsan International Business District in Seoul, South Korea, iconic retail destinations in Moscow and St. Petersburg Russia, an important cultural pavilion in Daegu, South Korea, two mixed use commercial towers in Zhangzhou, China, and a regional bank headquarters in Ghent, Belgium. Recently completed projects by Asymptote include the Yas Hotel, a 500-room, 5-star luxury hotel adjacent to Abu Dhabi’s new Yas Marina Formula 1 Racetrack; 166 Perry Street, a high-end residential building in New York City; and the award-winning HydraPier in Haarlemmermeer, The Netherlands. Other recent design projects include the Kaohsiung Marine Gateway; a large scale hotel and commercial complex at Zurich International Airport; a master plan for a 100,000-square-meter commercial center in Bergamo, Italy, a mixed-use urban master plan in Ghent, Belgium; a master plan for the Yongsan District, Seoul Korea, the design of the iconic StrataTower, an innovative, forty-story residential tower planned for Abu Dhabi, the World Business Center Solomon Tower in Busan, South Korea, a skyscraper design that is among the tallest in Asia; a large educational complex in Nantes, France, a master plan for a Emerald Island commercial complex in Shenzhen, China; an iconic, forty-story corporate headquarters in Tbilisi, Georgia; a design for the 146-story Dubai International Financial Center; a Monument Bridge for Abu Dhabi; an Eco-Cultural Master Plan for a sustainable and cultural urban design in Baku, Azerbaijan; an exhibition and music hall in Vitoria, Spain; and a dramatic design for a new Guggenheim Museum in Guadalajara, Mexico; Asymptote’s work has been the subject of 4 monographs and is widely published internationally in professional journals as well as the general press. The work of Asymptote is also included in several private and public collections including The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Frac Centre in Orléans, France. In 2004 Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture were awarded the coveted Frederick Kiesler Prize for Architecture and the Arts in recognition of exceptional contributions to the merging the disciplines of art and architecture. Time Magazine named Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture as being two of the most important designers of the new century.
