MAPS Design has created the wonderful W Retreat Koh Samui, the first W Retreat hotel in South East Asia. A resort on the beach, on a 10 hectare site on Maenam Beach, in the northern area of the island of Koh Samui, in Thailand.
70 villas, each one about 160 sq.m, with a Lounge area and Spa. The complex also includes 17 private residences ranging from a minimum of 700 sq m to 1300 sq m, in large plots each one with a wonderful view of the sea.
The project attempts to emphasise the panoramic views with a careful arrangement of the public areas and of the villas. The lobby is located on the highest point of the site from which you can admire all the landscape of the northern coast.
Spaces are treated as “open rooms” connected by covered passages and walkways. The services are located along the sides of the hill with a minimum impact on the existing topography. The villas, on the other hand, are located in two areas: on the beach or 'hidden' on the hill.
