Almost everything is ready for the official opening of the CITE DE LA MODE ET DU DESIGN in Paris, designed by the Paris architecture office Jakob + MacFarlane Architects (of New Zealand origin) scheduled for April 13th.
The recovery of the existing industrial building, overlooking the Seine near the Gare d'Austerlitz, began in 2008 and was completed today with the addition of the metal and glass external skin which characterises the part overlooking the river.
The building will be divided into two parts: the first dedicated to design and the second to fashion.
The fashion part will include exhibition spaces and catwalks for fashion shows, the headquarters of the French Fashion Institute, a specialised bookshop and a concept café.
The design section will have large areas for exhibitions and exclusive specialised trade shows (the first of which is on March 29 called “1.618 Sustainable Luxury”) but also spaces dedicated to sales, where there is a series of temporary stores of the most prestigious brands.
Finally the enormous terrace overlooking the Seine at the top of the building aims at becoming an essential venue for Paris nights. A third of the areas shall be occupied by an exclusive nightclub whereas in the remaining two thirds will be occupied by the Moonroof restaurant, which will enjoy a fascinating and unique view over the city.
