The Villa is country estate complete with house, grounds and subsidiary buildings. It usually applies to summer residencies.  Villa has a different meaning for the owner.

It is a way of indulging into something well deserved, long overdue, something you are proud of having.  It is not a simple showing off or desire to be seen. It is more refined and mature.

Villa Rivaud at St Martin expresses owners take on life:

“You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching,

Love like you’ll never be hurt,

Sing like there’s nobody listening,

And live like it’s heaven on earth.”

Expression in architecture is the communication of quality and meaning. The functions and the techniques of building are interpreted and transformed by expression into art, as sounds are made into music and words into literature. The nature of expression varies with the character of culture in different places and in different times, forming distinct modes or languages of expression that are called styles. Style communicates the outlook of a culture and the concepts of its architects. My q)
