Once considered as kitsch and almost tasteless, flamingos became the protagonists of design, in total harmony with the latest jungle and tropical trends.
A trend which exceeded the boundaries of fashion, starting from the trash cinema through hi-tech gadgets to furniture.
In the 80s and 90s in the USA the nice pink flamingos turned from being bad-taste garden ornaments to be the symbol of the rebellion of the new class of the rich, also thanks to the contribution by the artist Andy Warhol, who "pulled them out of a hat" and made them becoming part of the Pop Art, just like he did with the Campbell soup cans.
Until in 1987 the Massachusetts’s governor proclaimed the plastic birds "an essential contribution to the American popular art".
Coloured, bizarre, but also twisting and funny, these animals, with their exotic charm, invaded the world of interior design.
Here is a selection of funny design hints and ideas to fit out and ornament several and different spaces with flamingos, always present also on wallpapers.
