The Rowing Center on the shores of Lake Bled in Slovenia

Wood, glass, metal and concrete are the characterising elements of the Rowing center on the shores of Lake Bled.

The structure, which has undergone an intervention of restyling and improvement designed by Multiplan arhitekti for the 2011 Rowing World Championships, is defined by two elements: an open air spectator stand with retractable awnings and a closed area with boxes for journalists and VIPs, on top of which there is a panoramic terrace, which offers a unique view over the lake.

The areas under the stand are used as stores and toilets for the spectators and this minimises the building's impact on the shores of the lake.

The "harshness" of the concrete elements is mitigated by the softer and elongated lines of the wooden benches and the wood and glass curtain wall of the upper portion of architecture. "the wooden elements also create a link to the past, a modern way of interpreting architectural elements typical for villas in Bled, with their wooden balconies and window shutters, verandas and porches” explain the designers.
