The Graffiti cafe by the young design office Studio Mode of Sofia, Bulgaria has won two awards at the recent Restaurant & Bar design awards in London, being elected winner in both categories in which it was competing as the best bar in Europe and the overall award.

The best bar in the world is located inside a Design hotel in Varna, a city known as “the pearl of the Black Sea”, not without a certain self-celebratory emphasis, and in any case the third largest city in Bulgaria and an up-and-coming commercial and tourist centre.

The real challenge was to solve all the functional problems related to ventilation and acoustics subordinating them to a highly distinctive overall view, which reinterprets Escher's work bringing it into the field of decoration and interior design.

The result is an irresistibly stylish interior that combines known design pieces with original specially designed patterns and which alternates white with natural shades of untreated wood. The artistic component of this kind of interior intends to intentionally create a link with the contemporary art gallery located on the upper level of the building.

The other winners also included Kengo Kuma's Café Kureon (winner for Asia) and Las Piedras Fasano by Isay Weinfeld (for Central and South America).
