The architectural kermesse of EXPO 2015 has just ended, the most important moment for architects to assess the current “trend”.

In this exhibition lots of wood, both as rationalism, an unexpected Italian Palazzo Italia in bird nest style, but especially lots of green and garden design.

There are many countries pavilions that have chosen to incorporate gardens, hanging and vertical green in their exhibitions and with very different solutions, making them even more interesting.
We saw forests, green roofs, vertical crops, hydroponic production, aeroponic, acquaponic, vertical gardens obviously related to the 2015 theme of the food and then to agriculture.

Following the trend of the green we already find a second trend: the technological green that is not only aesthetic, but also productive.
The case for excellence 2015 is the Israeli pavilion that proposed a massive wall of 70 by 12 meters fully decorated with live plants, which have changed their colours with the seasons.
With a single-sided façade Israel showed us all the technology and research in hydroponics that has transformed the barren land into a fertile country.

Also interesting Poland and Austria, which have chosen to experience the “forest” in the city, Poland with the technique of intensive green roof, whereas Austria proposed a prototype of green island within the city, a real surprise for the visitor who accessed the Pavilion.

The United States of America chose instead the solution of the urban vertical vegetable garden with collectible crops. Some floating panels, easy to rotate in order to follow the sun, have been used to realize it and the crops have exploited a system of hydroponic agriculture. For crops irrigation rainwater was collected and recycled.
As for the green I can say that this year’s Expo was certainly interesting. Much from this point of view has been dared, responding with courage the theme of food offered by the organization. Many ideas for the future. The gardens and the urban vegetable gardens are definitely a central theme for the urban and modern architecture.
