Sam established Sam Crawford Architects (SCA) in 1999 and is the principal designer, and leader of the practice. He has built a national reputation for Design Excellence and is involved in all projects large and small, public, and residential. Through his architecture, Sam seeks to create joyful spaces that are respectful of place, and that are generous and beautiful. The diverse range of completed projects from private houses to public buildings is a testament to his skill and dedication.
As a leader, Sam is strategic and decisive. He has established a strong leadership team at SCA that allows him to efficiently manage 20 staff and remain intimately involved with each project. He draws his primary inspiration from the site and the natural world, and seeks design clarity where form, materiality and function harmonise. He has been recognised through the receipt of numerous state and national awards. His work has been published nationally and internationally and he is a regular speaker to architectural forums and events around Australia.
Sam lives in Sydney with his wife, artist Jane Crawford, and their four children.
