Project in an abstract site. Youghal / Ireland / 2011
2
PART ONE
BRIEF
_ Design of a building type and spaces having a specific function or use which is related
to the sea in an abstract site. It is the 1st part for the next project.
_ Site: an abstract site nearby the sea.
_ Duration: 1 month from January 2011.
CONCEPT
_ Two types of bath: the morrocan and the turkish ones.
_ The morrocan hammam is composed by 2 very big baths of different temperatures.
Usually it is a community space where people meet and talk. It is the reason why there
is a big main space with diffuse light for this collective space.
_ Subdivisions are minimum in the collective space.
_ The moucharabieh facade of the collective space can open to view the landscape.
_ The turkish hammam is composed by smaller spaces inside the pods for private
functions (steam and massages) and between the pods for rest.
_ The privacy is garanteed by the moucharabieh (perforated timber windows).
PART TWO
BRIEF
_ To use and adapt the previous project in the city of Youghal and add a coffee place
and staff facilities.
_ Site: Youghal, Ireland.
_ Duration: 3 months from February 2011.
CONCEPT
_ The previous design is adapted to the new site: the views are directed to the landscape
and the town to create visual links.
_ The new functions are added in a new part similar to the previous design.
_ A space separates the two parts: on the land side, there are the changing rooms
then a small garden. Then there is storage and finally, on the sea side, an external bath
facing the landscape.
