The Colosseum, i.e. the Flavian Amphitheatre

Pro Colosseum. And if instead of waiting to fall to the ground like a dying animal decide to give him a restorative care enough to keep him still for a bit 'of years and then pass it on to our posterity? We have a duty not to leave abandoned those assets, we must avoid to intervene here and there, and then get back in a few years the perpetration of the same problem, let us go over pragmatism, see and protect the works of yesterday with the achievements of today, in the near future, perhaps with some utopian vision. Probably we will find a solution that, although not complete and certainly not unique, partially fulfills both needs, I am convinced that the weight of this solution is greater than the sum of the weights of the extreme solutions which among other things, usually, they cancel each other. This is not a revolution, revolutions erase the memory and start over means going back in time, the architecture is an evolution instead, look forward with the knowledge of the past and interacts with its own dialectic in different ways depending on the time and place in which it sees the light, architecture, if worthy of being such, reflects their time and who does it also has this moral and professional duty. Somebody did, and I was "inspired" by Him!

Pro Colosseo. E se invece di aspettare che cada a terra come un animale moribondo decidessimo di fargli una cura ricostituente tanto da tenercelo per ancora un po’ di anni e per poi passarlo ai nostri posteri? Abbiamo il dovere di non lasciare abbandonati tali patrimoni, dobbiamo evitare di intervenire qua e la, per poi riavere nel giro di pochi anni il perpetrarsi dello stesso problema; spingiamoci oltre il pragmatismo, vediamo e proteggiamo le opere di ieri con le conquiste di oggi, in un prossimo futuro magari con qualche visione utopistica. Probabilmente troveremo una soluzione che, seppur non completa e sicuramente non unica, soddisfa in parte entrambe le necessità, sono convinto che il peso di tale soluzione sia superiore alla somma dei pesi delle soluzioni estreme che tra l’altro, di solito, si annullano a vicenda. Non si tratta di una rivoluzione, le rivoluzioni cancellano le memorie e ricominciare da capo significa tornare indietro nel tempo, l’architettura invece è una evoluzione, guarda in avanti con il sapere del passato e dialoga con una propria dialettica in maniera differente a seconda del tempo e del luogo in cui essa vede la luce; l’architettura, se degna di essere tale, riflette il proprio tempo e chi la fa ha anche questo dovere professionale e morale. Qualcuno l’ha fatto ed io mi sono "ispirato" a Lui!
