Despite its small dimension, the cabin includes a series of functions which determine its formal solutions. It’s a shed, where the firewood required by the client’s house heating system is stored. The air passing through the planks of the building’s shell ensures the collected wood to dry. It’s a shelter, a refuge, a place that provides interaction between the private but open courtyard and the outside public space. A center of gravity around which the life of the clients and the inhabitants of the small hamlet takes place: the niche on the south facade is a special seat for humans an animals. It’s a working space and a service zone for the outdoor area. The reinforced concrete wall that defines part of the east elevation folds inwards to create a surface where a large sink has been positioned. It’s a spatial delimitation device, an edge that defines zones and mediates uses. The wall of the previous cabin, with its uneven and stratified texture has been maintained and consolidated in order to sustain the new construction. Light gray coating covers the old masonry to unify and underline that presence. Details are basic. Definitions are literal. Reinforced concrete is used for base and wall. Wood for almost everything else: laminated wood for structure, burned chestnut for skin and roof, untreated chestnut for frames, plywood for inserts and niche, an old trunk became a step. A poor quality iron frame defines the door. In the end it’s only a wall, a box with a niche, a door and its window, two pivots, a step and a handle. Almost nothing else.

La baracca, nonostante le sue dimensioni irrisorie include in sé una serie di funzioni che si esplicitano in altrettante soluzioni formali. E’ legnaia per lo stoccaggio della legna da ardere nel caminetto della abitazione dei committenti. Le fessure che caratterizzano l’involucro di legno garantiscono l’aerazione necessaria all’essicazione del legname. E’ una zona di riparo e di interazione tra interno ed esterno del cortile, un baricentro che prende vita: la nicchia del lato sud è una seduta speciale per uomini e animali. E’ una zona di lavoro e servizio all’area esterna della casa. Il setto di cemento armato che definisce parte del prospetto est si ripiega all’interno a formare un piano di incasso per un lavandino capiente. E’ un dispositivo di delimitazione spaziale, una cortina di definizione tra qui e lì. Il muro della costruzione precedente, con la sua tessitura irregolare e combattuta è stato mantenuto, consolidato e lasciato a vista, a sostegno della nuova costruzione. Una mano di vernice grigia coprendo la vecchia muratura ne sottolinea ed unifica la presenza I dettagli sono al minimo. Le definizioni letterali. Cemento armato per basamento, murature e cordoli. Legno per quasi tutto. Lamellare per la struttura. Di castagno carbonizzato per il rivestimento e la copertura. Di castagno naturale per gli infissi. Compensato per gli inserti e la nicchia. Di bosco antico per il gradino. Ferraccio nel telaio del portoncino. In fin dei conti sono un muro, una scatola con nicchia, una porta con finestra, due pivot, un gradino e una maniglia. Quasi nient’altro.

Der Schuppen vereint, trotz seiner bescheidenen Größe, eine Reihe von Funktionen, für die ebenso viele formale Lösungen gefunden wurden. Er ist Holzschuppen für die Lagerung von Brennholz für die Heizungsanlage der Auftraggeber. Die typischen Ritzen in der Bretterwand garantieren eine ausreichende Belüftung der trocknenden Holzvorräte. Er ist Unterstand und Schnittstelle zwischen drinnen und draußen im Hof, ein Ort, an dem Leben stattfindet: Die Nische an der Südseite ist ein Freisitz für Mensch und Tier. Er ist Arbeitsplatz und Serviceraum für den Außenbereich des Hauses. Die Stahlbetonwand, die einen Teil der Ostseite bildet, ist nach innen zu einer Arbeitsfläche geklappt, in die ein geräumiges Spülbecken eingelassen ist. Die Mauer des Vorgängerbaus mit ihrer unregelmäßigen und angeschlagenen Struktur bleibt erhalten und wurde zur sichtbaren Außenwand des Neubaus gemacht. Ein Anstrich mit grauer Farbe deckt das alte Mauerwerk zu, unterstreicht und harmonisiert seine Präsenz. Stahlbeton für Fundament, Mauern und Kantsteine. Holz für fast alles: Brettschichtholz für das Gerüst, karbonisiertes Kastanienholz für Verkleidung und Dach, unbehandelte Kastanie für Tür- und Fensterrahmen. Sperrholz für Auskleidungen und die Nische. Ein alter Stamm als Stufe. Schlussendlich handelt es sich um eine Mauer, eine Schachtel mit Nische, eine Tür mit Fenster, zwei Türangeln und eine Stufe. Fast nichts mehr.

En dépit de ses dimensions minimales, le cabanon inclut une série de fonctions qui se traduisent en autant de solutions formelles. Il s’agit d’un bûcher pour le stockage du bois destiné au système de chauffage de l’habitation des maîtres d’ouvrage. Les fissures caractéristiques de l’enveloppe en bois garantissent la ventilation nécessaire au séchage des bûches stockées. C’est à la fois un abri et un lieu d’interaction entre l’intérieur de la cour et l’extérieur, un centre de gravité qui prend vie : la niche côté sud est un siège spécialement conçu pour les hommes et les animaux. Le cabanon sert de zone de travail et de service pour l’extérieur de la maison. La paroi de ciment armé qui définit une partie de la façade est se replie vers l’intérieur pour former un plan de travail intégrant un grand évier. C’est un dispositif délimitant les espaces et définissant les fonctions. Arborant une texture irrégulière et tourmentée, le mur de l’ancienne construction a été conservé, consolidé et laissé apparent, en soutien au nouvel ouvrage. Une couche de vernis gris recouvre l’ancienne maçonnerie afin d’en souligner et unifier la présence. Les détails sont réduits au minimum, les définitions littérales. Du ciment armé pour le soubassement, la maçonnerie et les corniches. Du bois presque omniprésent : lamellé pour la structure, en châtaignier carbonisé pour le parement et la toiture, en châtaignier non traité pour les encadrements, contreplaqué pour les insertions et la niche ainsi qu’un vieux tronc pour la marche. En fin de compte, c’est un mur, une boîte et une niche encastrée, une porte avec une fenêtre, deux pivots et une marche. Rien d’autre ou presque.
