F-Stop

Deep in the recesses of the architecture building at Cal Poly, lay a dark unused space that was full of potential. Angled walls, a sloped ceiling, and four hundred square feet, this space became the blank canvas for twenty-one students to creatively and corroboratively transform the cave-like space into an interior architecture project meant to be a lasting contribution to the hardworking architecture students. Through the process of individual then group charrettes, there was an eventual distribution of tasks into specific design teams. I was on the display wall design team with three other students. Among group design collaboration, I was mainly responsible for the design of the blocking behind the display wall to make it a flush wall system, as well as the design of the horizontal panel layout of the flush wall itself to optimize aesthetics and material use. During the whole process, I was also involved in all aspects of construction, cost analysis, and logistical performance issues, including water mitigation, electrical accommodations, and safety issues. This lounge space was featured in AIAS Crit Magazine in Spring of 2011.
