The Pellet

The new office building is a part of the development of an iron ore deposit near Komsomolsk, Poltava region. The prototype for the building shape was a pellet. Iron ore pellets are used in the manufacture of steel and are a core product of Ferrexpo. The shape of the building is virtually spherical, like a pellet, contrasting it to the industrial surroundings. Like the shape, its scale and finish are distinctive. The building is placed on top of a green hill which emphasizes its special position in the industrial context. The hill is at the same time a part of both the building and the landscape. It links the building to the ground while accomodating an open square in front of the building, dining patio and entrance zone. The above-ground part of the building has 8 floors, all office function. Each floor has a circular plan with the central communication core and open space offices.
