Dubbed the “Olympics of Sustainable Architecture”, the Solar Decathlon challenges 20 collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are Net Zero Energy Buildings and are affordable, energy-efficient, and attractive. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends cost-effectiveness, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency. Team Israel is the first Israeli team to participate in a Solar Decathlon and is made up of students from 4 leading colleges and universities in Israel, incorporating future architects, engineers, and designers. The team is led by Architect Dr. Joseph Cory and Architect Chen Shalita. Team Israel makes a point of using only environmentally-friendly materials throughout the house, incorporating a light steel frame structure and recyclable materials and FSC-certified bamboo. All house furniture is made out of these sustainable, resistant and recycled materials. The result is a flexible, sustainable design for a home that strongly reflects the environmental, cultural and social aspects of the Israeli region. Material: Bamboo panels- Solid boards and Square Bamboo panels: The indoor furniture is made of bamboo solid boards, the outdoor furniture is made of Square Bamboo panels from the Kne’Kash building materials range. The materials we at Kne’Kash use are manufactured to comply with Green Building Standards in order to reduce the overall impact of construction and building on human health and the natural environment. New technologies are constantly being developed in order to create greener materials from rapidly renewing sources to be applied in green building projects. It begins with the selection of materials followed by research and development up to implementations that are fitted uniquely to each project. The Kne’Kash world is modern design meets sustainable living. We call it LIVING MATERIALS.
