Dubbed the “Olympics of Sustainable Architecture”, the Solar Decathlon challenges 20 collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are Net Zero Energy Buildings and are affordable, energy-efficient, and attractive. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends cost-effectiveness, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency.
Team Israel is the first Israeli team to participate in a Solar Decathlon and is made up of students from 4 leading colleges and universities in Israel, incorporating future architects, engineers, and designers. The team is led by Architect Dr. Joseph Cory and Architect Chen Shalita. Team Israel makes a point of using only environmentally-friendly materials throughout the house, incorporating a light steel frame structure and recyclable materials and FSC-certified bamboo. All house furniture is made out of these sustainable, resistant and recycled materials. The result is a flexible, sustainable design for a home that strongly reflects the environmental, cultural and social aspects of the Israeli region.
Material: Bamboo panels- Solid boards and Square Bamboo panels:
The indoor furniture is made of bamboo solid boards, the outdoor furniture is made of Square Bamboo panels from the Kne’Kash building materials range.
