Breuninger Canteen with Terrace | DIA - Dittel Architekten

The newly designed employees’ canteen with a terrace at Breuninger´s flagship store in Stuttgart reveals a clean and timeless look. The central feature of the concept is the creation of different zones and seating spaces.

Recurrent use of materials and consistent design seamlessly blend together the canteen and terrace. Various options to linger allow the employees to enjoy their recreation time however they like. The design is molded by the application of clear shapes. Here there is a vast amount of space where you can spend your recreation time in a comfortable atmosphere, inside or outside. In the canteen´s 770 sqm, there are 27 solid wood tables from which you can observe the hustle and bustle. For more peace and quiet and more besides, there is a bar, a bench or the cozy lounge. An exciting feature of the canteen is the ceiling, as in parts it is fitted with hanging ceiling banners. These are not only eye-catching, they are also perfect for absorbing noise and therefore create a pleasant atmosphere. Enjoying fresh air, seeing the sunshine and gaining energy: this is all possible on the 360 sqm terrace. There is the possibility to settle down on one of the generously designed lounge-islands, at one of the three bars with their view of the city and market place, or on one of the modern-design concrete benches. The concept of the different seating spaces has been relocated. The parasols that were designed especially for this project offer shelter from the sun. With their asymmetrical arrangement within the concrete tables, they are an attractive highlight.
