Ampliamento del Cimitero di Ponte Buggianese | Massimo Mariani

Il progetto di ampliamento del cimitero si estende su un’area di circa 4500 mq., situata accanto al cimitero esistente. Il progetto prevede la costruzione di circa 1230 loculi, 720 ossari/urne-cinerarie e 12 cappelle private che andranno a coprire le necessità dei prossimi 15 anni. Dal punto di vista urbanistico il cimitero, al momento dell'incarico, appariva diviso in due parti: la prima, con un chiaro impianto ottocentesco, che lo caratterizza come luogo di culto, è assimilabile ad altri luoghi dell’intorno e della Toscana, la seconda, degli anni 60/80, mostra i linguaggi di due diversi progettisti, creando quel po’ di confusione tipologica che sottrae identità al luogo sacro. Il tutto è attraversato da un asse longitudinale che collega l’ingresso principale alla chiesa e da un asse trasversale all'altezza dell’ingresso laterale. Il nuovo progetto tenta di restituire al luogo identità propria di culto e di rispetto, e si sviluppa sul proseguimento dell’asse longitudinale. La chiesa esistente è stata demolita perche ostruiva l’unico accesso alla zona di ampliamento; al suo posto è stata costruita una nuova chiesa a completare il lungo asse prospettico centrale. La nuova chiesa è caratterizzata da una grande croce che si ripete sui quattro lati, ciascuna, accanto alla chiara funzione iconografica, assolve anche alla funzione strutturale. Ai lati sono previsti due corpi di fabbrica in cemento armato bianco, caratterizzati da un grande grigliato, che crea una zona di semi-ombra. Dei due edifici oggi è stato completato il primo, quello nord, un parallelepipedo in calcestruzzo lungo 50 metri, schermato da un prospetto grigliato in cemento bianco: al piano terra si trovano contenitori di varie dimensioni, per alloggiare i loculi e le urne cinerarie, sedute per il riposo ed il raccoglimento, fontanelle, servizi igienici e scale. Al piano superiore i loculi sono disposti in maniera molto ordinata, serviti da una lunga balconata che si affaccia sul piano inferiore. Gli edifici che organizzano urbanisticamente questo spazio sono disposti lungo il perimetro del lotto, a formare una corte; si allontanano dal muro di cinta di circa tre metri, così da lasciare una striscia di terreno piantumata con filari di cipressi, che danno al luogo una immediata riconoscibilità e al tempo stesso trasformano questi distacchi in “orti di preghiera”. L’interno della corte è caratterizzato da un prato verde per le tombe a terra, sul lato sud, in prossimità dell’ingresso laterale, è prevista la costruzione di un arco funzionale, sotto a cui alloggerà il nuovo negozio di fiori. Sullo stesso lato è previsto un rivestimento in rete metallica per l’aggrappaggio di verde rampicante; in questo modo si compie una operazione di ricucitura tra la parte nuova del cimitero e quella esistente, che si presenta un po’ come un bunker. E' previsto infine il raddoppio dell’area di parcheggio. The design concerns an area of about 4,500 square metres, which is placed next to the already existing cemetery (on the west side) in order to complete the area allocated for this purpose. This plan, which also involves the south side, where we can find the current side entrance, it const the building of about 1,230 loculi, 720 ossuaries/cinerary urns and 12 private chapels, thus the complex will cover the citizen's needs for the next 15 years. From the urbanistic point of view, the cemetery is divided into 2 parts. The first-one bears a clear 19th century influence and defines it as a worship place, it's similar to other places of the surroundings and of Tuscany. The second part, dates from the 60s/80s, therefore the different languages of two different planners create a typological confusion and we notice a loss of identity. This ensemble is crossed by a longitudinal axis which connects the main entrance to the church and a perpendicular axis starting from the side entrance. This new plan is trying to give back to the cemetery its own identity both of worship and respect, and it is developed on the continuation of the longitudinal axis. The old church has been demolished to free the only access to the expansion area; a new church was built as to complete the long perspective axis. The new church is characterized by large crosses which are built on each sides of the building, they solve both structural and an iconographic function. The rest of the church is made of glass and it comes out as if compressed and set into the stones coating the private chapels. On both sides of the church there are going to be two buildings in white reinforced concrete, characterized by a huge grid which goes to outline an area of semishade. The buildings are going to be on two floors: downstairs there are some containers of various dimensions in order to host the loculi, the cinerary urns, the ossuaries. Besides, there are going to be benches to rest and pray, some small fountains, toilet facilities and stairs. On the upper floor , the loculi will be placed in an orderly manner and there will be a balcony which runs along the loculi and gives out onto the ground floor. The buildings which give shape to this space are set along the perimeter of the site in order to make up a yard. They are detached from the walls by 3 metres because this space is going to be lined with some rows of cypress trees, which give this area an immediate sense of identity; by this way this empty stripes become “gardens of prayer”. The inner yard includes a lawn for the land graves, on the south side, near the side entrance, we envisage the building of a functional arch which will host a flower shop. Besides, on the south side, in order to join the new and the old area of the cemetery, there is going to be the coating of the existing side with a metallic net for creepers. Finally the parking area is going to double up in size.
