Tetris House derived from turning very pragmatic parameters into a spatially engaging concept:

Multiple programmatic demands (five self-contained units, parking space and exterior areas, potential archaeological site) have initiated two volumes: L- shaped in plan and section they are spatially interwoven as to produce a range of in-between spaces.

The building is organized into two volumes which divide the “private villa” of the client with its own independent access from the small units which are rented out.

An open staircase between the two parts provides access for the small units and the common spaces which are put in the underground level.  Each volume cantilevers about five meters in order to provide covered parking. The cantilever whose structural forces are legible in the wall and the ceiling planes is the result of a series of demands and restrictions from the local government on the one hand and the client on the other:

The building site is considered to sit on a potential archaeological spot with remaining from a Roman settlement. In order to avoid excessive expenses for an archaeological excavation process, we kept the footprint as small as possible. Respecting the local limitation in hight development and wanting to realize the possible allowed size we ended up to propose a cantilever of the separated volumes.

Local materials such are local larch wood are used throughout the design: in the outside as covering façade material, in the inside, the wood is used with a white tint. The outside sloped and shaped façade continues in the inside as a built-in sideboard that turns into a series of steps and plinth beneath the internal stairs.

Tetris House deriva dal trasformare parametri molto pragmatici in un concetto spaziale accattivante.

Molteplici richieste programmatiche (cinque unità autonome, parcheggio ed aree esterne, potenziale sito archeologico) hanno dato origine a due volumi: a forma di L in pianta e sezione, essi si intrecciano nello spazio a produrre una gamma di spazi intermedi.

L’edificio è organizzato in due volumi che dividono la „villa privata“ del cliente, con il suo proprio accesso indipendente, dalle piccole unità che vengono affittate.

Un vano scala aperto tra le due parti dà accesso alle piccole unità e agli spazi comuni collocati nel livello interrato. Ogni volume è a sbalzo di circa 5 metri per fornire copertura ai parcheggi. L‘elemento a sbalzo, le cui forze strutturali sono leggibili nella parete e nei piani dei solai, è il risultato di una serie di richieste e restrizioni, da una parte, dettate dalle normative locali e, dall’altra, volute dal cliente.

Si pensa che il sito dell’edificio sia posizionato su un potenziale sito archeologico con i resti di insediamenti romani. Per evitare le spese eccessive per un processo di scavo archeologico, abbiamo mantenuto l’impronta dell’edificio il più piccola possibile. Rispettando i limiti di altezza locali e volendo comunque realizzare le dimensioni massime consentite, abbiamo optato per proporre lo sbalzo dei volumi separati.

In tutto il progetto si sono utilizzati materiali locali come il legno di larice: all’esterno come materiale di rivestimento per la facciata, all’interno il legno viene utilizzato in una tinta bianca. La facciata esterna, inclinata e sagomata, continua all’interno con una credenza incorporata che si trasforma in una serie di gradini e zoccoli sotto al vano scale interno.
