Hochzoll Mitte Tram Stop
Augsburg / Germany / 2010

The Hochzoll Mitte tram stop on the newly built Line 6 in Augsburg is very appealing. The Nuremberg artist Rita Kriege was commissioned by the Augsburg public utility to provide the artistic decoration for the shelters on both sides. The artist's bright, eye-catching installation turns the tram stop on this busy street into a new focal point in the city. The expressive colours change hue according to the time of day. As well as reflecting neighbouring businesses and passing cars in the glass elements, the slowly changing colours provide an entertaining view to passers-by.
Four light panels on each shelter provide a protective screen from the street. The panels, which measure 1480 x 2175 mm, are embedded in 2 x 8 mm ESG weatherproof elements made of insulating glass. With the OKALUX OKACOLOR digital printing, the brilliant colour gradients are directly imprinted on the interior of the ESG panes. The city-bound tram stop has a colour gradient in warm prismatic colours while the out-bound stop has colder colours. In bad weather or at night, when the LEDs are switched on, the milled engraving lines and graphic patterns become visible. Because the LED strips can be individually adjusted and reprogrammed, the lighting effects can be reset for various occasions.
