In the summer of 2013, the Solar Decathlon China competition will take place in Datong, China, hosted by the Chinese National Energy Administration and the U.S. Department of Energy, with the organization and support of Peking University and private companies. Dubbed the "Olympics of Sustainable Architecture", the Solar Decathlon challenges 20 collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are Net Zero Energy Buildings as well as being affordable, innovative, and attractive. The competition has taken place in the United States since 2002, and will be held in China for the first time next year. Team Israel is made up of students from four leading colleges and universities in Israel, incorporating future architects, engineers, and designers, led by two leading Israeli environmental architects. Our design agenda reflects a modern take on the Mediterranean style of construction, with a focus on community and use of outdoor space.
