YMS City Park hair salon | Kitsch Nitsch

Materials used: - wall vinyl self-adhesive film (cut and applied by ourselves) - painted MDF wood panels for construction of furniture and mirrors (all furniture was designed by us and made by Lavka Carpentry) - ready made mannequin Location background: The salon is situated in a shopping mall called City Park. City Park is part of a wast area of shopping malls, stores and recreational facilities called BTC. BTC is a sort of a city next to a city, but with no residents, only consumers. Its construction started in mid 90s with the rise of capitalism, when old storage rooms were transformed into shops. It has grown steadily ever since, sucking the life from the Ljubljana city centre. The response to its existence is a deeply ambivalent one, while it has no substance, charm or identity it has become a necessary evil to visit BTC since shops like hardware stores can no longer be found in the centre of Ljubljana. City Park itself is a gigantic generic shopping mall with no real points of interest. The space the salon occupies was a hair salon earlier, it has a window front and a single space with no divisions. Its a sort of a cubicle with never ending stores to the left and to the right.
