The building is compact in shape both for reasons of appearance and to restrict heat loss. The classrooms are South-facing, with large windows looking onto the small garden, shielded with brises-soleil and fitted with one large door and one small, child-size door. The roof consists of shaped laminated timber beams, exposed boarding, wood-fibre insulation and a ribbed sheet metal covering. The walls are in perforated clay blocks with timber cladding. Good insulation and a radiant coil system enabled the existing heating plant to be retained.
