[EN] - Time stands still in Cuernavaca, the capital of Morelos in southern Mexico. Alexander von Humboldt nicknamed it the “City of Eternal Spring,” both for its pleasant climate – temperatures average 21° C year-round – and its abundance of colorful flowers, especially the fragrant Flor de Mayo. In ancient Mesoamerican cultures, the five petals of the Flor de Mayo’s blossom represented the five senses. Continuing that tradition comes the Flor de Mayo Hotel & Restaurant, where you’ll find a plethora of sensory delights in the midst of Cuernavaca’s natural beauty. Sight: Floral exuberance surrounds you at the Flor de Mayo, beginning with the namesake tree flourishing on the hotel’s central patio. Blossoming vegetation winds its way around the patio’s steel columns, the organic fusing with the man-made. The architecture combines the building’s 19th-century past with contemporary design and floral ornamentation. The hotel’s surroundings are also a visual treat; from the terrace, enjoy views of downtown Cuernavaca as well as the Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes. Sound: A line of ceramics developed especially for the hotel includes the flower-shaped iPod speakers found in every room. Smell: Taking advantage of the bounty of the Morelos Valley, Flor de Mayo offers organic shower products made with floral extracts and honey, produced by a local organization that supports the development of disadvantaged women. Taste: At the restaurant, chef Victor Olvera’s seasonal cuisine fuses Mexican and Asian influences, using local fruits, vegetables and flowers to delight the palate. You can also enjoy a selection of appetizers and aperitifs at the poolside Arriba Bar. Touch: Relax at the spa, where treatments use flowers and soil from the premises to create a unique experience. Afterwards, retire to one of 24 rooms, where 400-thread-count Egyptian linens await – the perfect end to a day in the City of Eternal Spring. LOCATION OF FLOR DE MAYO HOTEL & RESTAURANT Flourish your senses at the Flor de Mayo Hotel and Restaurant in Cuernavaca, where form follows nature. It’s a garden of exuberance at the intersection of flora, architecture and design. Cuernavaca, city, capital of Morelos estado (state), south-central Mexico.
