In 2011 FUWL studio met Consentino, producers of Silestone, the light and strong enhanced quartz, made by blending gravel with colouring and binding agents. When produced the silestone rolls out in thick slabs by kilometre-long production lines. Consentino were interested in making a product that transmit how incredible beautiful and precious the material is – something that might be hard to see by just looking at a slab. The result of this collaboration is Slab Vases, a conceptual piece featuring rings of Silestone slipped over a metal bracket measuring around 40 cm high to produce a watertight vessel. The rings vary in size and cut, so the shape of the vase changes with each assembly. The project aimed to break away from Silestone’s slab form and explore the material’s tactile dimension. From FUWL studio’s side the project was really about being able to handle the material: to feel it, to lift it, to be able to feel the weight. The vase is meant to be played with. The material comes in a variety of colors and have an Iberian origin, but Scandinavian sensibilities run through the Slab vases project. Form Us With Love has worked with different shades of grey as well as tones of hot red and orange.
