Chic and Basic Ramblas | Lagranja Design

The design studio Lagranja was responsible for the reform of this hotel in the heart of Raval district in Barcelona. The building works have been done in two stage, one during 2009 and the last one during the spring of 2012. ‘When our client showed us the old hotel, it directly reminded us the hotels of spanish films in the 60’s and 70’s, talking about the incipient tourist in our beaches’. This was the concept we used as inspiration for the whole hotel project, working hand in hand with the team of graphic designers looking for old pictures relationated with this period of time. That way, the reform of this hotel began to be also an exhibition design project. Another important determinant for the design was the limited budget available. Three of the six room’s floor has been done during the first stage of the works in 2009. The rooms were distributed in six colours (red, light blue, dark blue, orange, grey and green). The colour chosen for every room was repeated in the bathroom’s tiles, the paint of some of the walls and the carpet that also apears as a presentation of every bedroom in front of their doors in the corridor. Every room has a different picture printed in the door that also gives the room its name (something like: Julio Iglesia’s room or the Eurovision Contest’s room…) A family of simple furniture has been also designed for these rooms like the wooden stair to hang your clothes. The ground floor has been the last area reformed. A light green ‘seat 600’ in the middle of the looby wellcomes the new guests and prepares them to their “60’s spanish tourist” experience. A recepcion desk made with real bags and a ‘peseta-table’ complete the collection of special furniture design for this project. In the restaurant area the original bar has been respected just covering the old ceramic tiles with iron sheets. The false cealing has been made with printed trays as a resume of all the pictures used in the rest of the hotel. [SP] El estudio de diseño Lagranja es el responsable de la reforma de este hotel en el corazón del barrio del Raval en Barcelona. Las obras se han realizado en dos fases, una primera durante el año 2009 y la última durante la primavera del año 2012. ‘Cuando nuestro cliente nos enseñó el antiguo apartahotel, nos vino inmediatamente a la cabeza la imagen de los hoteles de las películas españolas de los años 60 y 70 que hablaban de un incipiente turismo de playa’. Este ha sido el concepto que se ha usado como inspiración para generar todo el proyecto. Conjuntamente con un equipo de diseñadores gráficos y el propio cliente se realizó una búsqueda de fotografías antiguas relacionadas con este periodo de tiempo. De esta manera la reforma de este hotel se convirtió, de alguna manera, en un proyecto expositivo. Otro importante condicionante para el diseño de este proyecto fue el escaso presupuesto disponible. La reforma de tres de las seis plantas de habitaciones se realizaron durante la primera fase de las obras en el año 2009. Se eligieron seis colores (rojo, azul celeste, azul marino, naranja, gris y verde) que fueron asignados aleatoriamente a cada habitación. El color elegido para cada habitación se repitió en los azulejos del baño, la pintura de algunas de las paredes y la moqueta de la entrada de cada habitación. Esta zona de moqueta se alarga hasta el pasillo como una presentación de cada habitación frente a cada una de las puertas. Cada habitación tiene una imagen impresa en la puerta de entrada. Esta imagen sirve para tematizar y nombrar cada habitación (por ejemplo: habitación Julio Iglesias o habitación Eurovisión). Se ha diseñado una gama de mobiliario sencillo para estas habitaciones. La escalera de madera teñida para colgar la ropa es un buen ejemplo. La planta baja ha sido la última zona reformada. Un seat 600 pintado de color verde y colocado en mitad del vestibulo del hotel da la bienvenida a los clientes y les prepara para su ‘viaje’ a través del turismo español de los años 60. El mostrador de recepción se ha realizado con maletas de piel reales. La mesa-peseta completa la colección de mobiliario diseñado a medida para este proyecto. En la zona del restaurante se ha mantenido la barra original cubriendo los azulejos con chapas metálicas. El techo se ha decorado con bandejas de colores donde se han imprimido todas las imagenes utilizadas en el resto del hotel.
