The renovation of the barn has implied conservative works on the existing building and its enlargement moving a volume located in a different position on the estate.
The barn, which used to be employed as a granary, as now been turned into a small, 65-square-meteres apartment consisting of a living room, a kitchen, a closet, a bedroom and a bathroom.
Where the swinery once was, now is the entrance to the barn, through a glass and iron verandah wich reminds you of old-fashioned lemon-houses, typical of th etuscan countryside.
The main feature of this renovation work is the employment of natural materials, stones and wood, both in the structure and in the interior design. The latter has been carefully studied so that the final outcome is an atmosphere of semplicity and sophistication at the same time.
The cooking and washing area in the kitchen is built on a wooden framework encompassing the old trough for the animals, found in the garden where it had been thrown away. The wooden framework surface has been decorated with a natural paste made of powdered local stone mixed with a kind natural glue, after the procedure used by the ancient Romans.
The bedroom is characterized by the headboard (an old door found at a local antiques store which has been given an artificial patina) and the wooden floor ( old oak).
The flooring on the ground floor is made of hand made terracotta tiles from a small, family-run kiln situated in between Siena and Arezzo.
