Located near ' El Zocalo’, right in the heart of the old city where the Aztecs first settled and afterwards the Spaniards built churches and palaces using the existing stones that were part of the Aztec pyramids. “Downtown” is settled on a magnificent palace, witness of the XVII century architecture. Known as the “Palacio de los Condes de Miravalle”, the red volcanic rock walls, the multiple doors, window quarry frames and the handmade cement tiles, along with the glorious patios and a spectacular stone-forge staircase provide the building the unique flavor of the Mexican vice regal style. The intervention preserved the original façades and the main walls, and although we took advantage of the general distribution of the space, a new order with a contemporary look was proposed, attributing a new identity and character to the building. The architectural program is original and innovative, with a combination of boutique hotel and hostel within the same building. Both concepts are spatially separated working as two different elements. The access floor welcomes the visitor into an interior patio of triple height, a clear representation of the important colonial heritage. The ground floor has two other inner courtyards, which separate the spaces and surround the corridors resembling a Hacienda. The patios are the main distributors of space, allowing natural light and ventilation into the hotel and consequently decreasing the use of energy, artificial light and air conditioning. The guest rooms are located in the first and second level and are attractively designed in neutral tones, spiced up with retro lamps and custom designed furniture. The traditional red brick is protagonist through the interiors. By taking advantage of the nobility of this material, we designed a lattice which is constant in the rooms, furniture and walls. The rooftop is equipped with a restaurant and pool, offering panoramic views of the city and crowning the project. [SP] Situado cerca de 'El Zócalo ", justo en el corazón de la ciudad vieja, donde los aztecas se asentaron y después los españoles construyeron iglesias y palacios, utilizando las piedras existentes que formaban parte de las pirámides aztecas. “Downtown” se estableció en un palacio magnífico testimonio de la arquitectura del siglo XVII. Conocido como el "Palacio de los Condes de Miravalle", las paredes rojas de roca volcánica, las múltiples puertas, los marcos de cantera en las ventanas y las baldosas de cemento hechas a mano, junto con los gloriosos patios y una escalera de piedra espectacular-forge proviene del estilo mexicano. La intervención preserva las fachadas originales y las paredes principales, y aunque nos aprovechamos de la distribución general del espacio, un nuevo orden con una mirada contemporánea fue propuesta, atribuyendo una nueva identidad y carácter al edificio. El programa arquitectónico es original e innovador, con una combinación de hotel y hostal boutique dentro del mismo edificio. Ambos conceptos están separados espacialmente trabajando como dos elementos diferentes. La planta de acceso da la bienvenida al visitante con un patio interior de triple altura, con una importante representación de la herencia colonial. La planta baja cuenta con dos patios interiores, que separan los espacios y rodean los pasillos semejando a una hacienda. Los patios son los principales distribuidores del espacio, permitiendo luz natural y ventilación en el hotel y en consecuencia esto disminuye el uso de energía, la luz artificial y aire acondicionado. Las habitaciones están ubicadas en el primer y segundo nivel y están atractivamente decoradas en tonos neutros, decoradas con lámparas retro y muebles diseñados a su medida. El tradicional ladrillo rojo es protagonista a través de los interiores. Al tomar ventaja de la nobleza de este material, hemos diseñado un perfil que es constante en las habitaciones, el mobiliario y las paredes. La terraza está equipada con un restaurante y una piscina, que ofrece vistas panorámicas de la ciudad y la coronación del proyecto.
