The Bulgarian three-legged chair is considered to be as old as the First Bulgarian State, a speechless witness of Bulgarian history, way of life and culture. For centuries the close to the ground three-legged chair kept the Bulgarian spirit humble. Situated around the “paraliya” ( a short-legged round table ) near the fireplace it encouraged traditional family values to grow even stronger. It was the work chair of the Bulgarian weavers while producing the picturesque national rugs and carpets. Placed in front of the house it was part of the son-in-low welcome rituals. Its presence in dreams was interpreted as a portent of prosperity. Its three legs were associated with Faith, Hope and Love – a strong religious connotation that gave this little article iconic significance. Modern furniture ergonomics has made nowadays the traditional three-legged chair almost extinct, replacing traditional values by uniform esthetics. Interpreting the morphology of Bulgarian traditional three-legged chair and enriching it graphically with Bulgarian traditional rug motives, the TrEdition chair is looking for a new expression of the old tradition, adequate to the contemporary context. The Bulgarian spirit needs to take a permanent place in the Bulgarian everyday life. This is why the TrEdition chair should achieve certain criteria - modularity and low cost. The simplicity of the prismatic triangular shape allows the chairs to group in TrEdition tables and benches by magnetic inserts, and a plastic production line (except wooden) reduces the final cost so that TrEdition can become an available, low-cost, ethically aesthetic interpretation of the Bulgarian tradition.
