Masterplan for the former Philips industrial plants in Eindhoven (NL) Eindhoven / Netherlands / 2012
0
My master thesis represents the final result of my experience as an Erasmus student at the Technische Universiteit of Eindhoven (NL). Strijp-s is an ex industrial area where Philips developed; the aim of my masterplan is the redevelopment of this portion of the city. A green 'urban forest' surrounds streets, parkings, the renovated existing buildings and the new ones. In the new Strijp-s there are different functions: residential, commercial and cultural areas, offices and ateliers, cafè and restaurants.
More in detail, the new buildings have a metal frame structure, while the existing buildings maintain their original concrete frame structure. Both the types of constructions show dry-stone wood technology for floors and walls. Terraces and balconies are conceived as small greenhouses; therefore, they are covered with a plastic, transparent, self cleaning, easy to repair and recyclable material called ETFE, used for awnings or for creating pneumatic cushions.
