The Autarki research project is a full scale test-pavilion constructed by CINARK(Center for Industriel Arkitektur). The purpose is to test and gather knowledge about the use of cross-laminated wood panels in passive and low-energy houses. Building with massive wood is a relative new construction method, but has high potentials for use in low-energy constructions. The new construction method simplifies the construction process and the use of cross laminated wood panels ensures a very high isolation value and fewer thermal bridges. The goal of the project is to create a comfortable indoor climate without any external energy input but the sun. In order to collect the maximum amount of sunlight and solar heat, the team decided to use Rational AURA PLUS windows. Rational AURA PLUS is energy contributing and the standard window provides +2.7 kWh/m2. Along with the ventilation system, the windows keeps Autarki pavilion comfortably warm.
