Yoshino area, Nara ,registered into world heritage, is a one of the most important place of production of the Japanese cedar. From ancient times, the Yoshino cedar has been used as constructional materials of Japanese architecture. However, in recent years, the tradition is declining quickly by exhaustion of resources, development of laminated lumber, the shortage of talented people, etc. The location of the site is Gojo city which is a distribution center of the Yoshino cedar. The client bought the building which once was a storage warehouse of cedars, and she requested us to convert into a cake shop with a cafe. We removed all ornaments and artificial materials, and regained the beautiful framework built only with cedars , and designed a kitchen and work space functionally. Although budgets were few, the beauty of Yoshino cedar helped us.
